This protein can be stored in working aliquots at 2 degree - 8 degree C for one month, or at -20 degree C for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

HCV Core antigen is suitable for ELISA and Western blots, excellent antigen for detection of HCV with minimal specificity problems.

Host Note: DNA sequence encoding immunodominant fragment of Hepatitis C Virus core protein was expressed in Escherichia Coli.

Molecular Weight Note: Recombinant HCV Core encodes the immunodominant sequences of the HCV nucleocapsid p21 protein. This molecule has a calculated mass of approximately 13kDa. Recombinant HCV Core contains an N terminal GST purification tag and migrates as an approximately 39 kDa protein under non-reducing conditions and reducing conditions in SDS-PAGE.

The capsid is formed by polymerization of the HCV Core protein, a structural viral protein encoded by the 5
end of the HCV open reading frame.1 After translation, host signal peptidases cleave the HCV Core protein from the precursor polyprotein and remove the signal peptide located at its C-terminus. The HCV Core protein is antigenic, interacts with numerous cellular proteins, induces specific cellular and humoral responses, and through various pathways could play an important role in the pathogenesis of HCV infection.
