Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of human Interleukin 6 (also known as IL-6) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates. Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human IL-6 antibody. IL-6 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human IL-6 Antibody is added and binds to IL-6 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IL-6 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human IL-6. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene encodes a cytokine that functions in inflammation and the maturation of B cells. In addition, the encoded protein has been shown to be an endogenous pyrogen capable of inducing fever in people with autoimmune diseases or infections. The protein is primarily produced at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where it is secreted into the serum and induces a transcriptional inflammatory response through interleukin 6 receptor, alpha. The functioning of this gene is implicated in a wide variety of inflammation-associated disease states, including suspectibility to diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It is discharged into the bloodstream after muscle contraction and acts to increase the breakdown of fats and to improve insulin resistance. It induces myeloma and plasmacytoma growth and induces nerve cells differentiation.
