Th1 cells secrete IFN-gamma, IL-2, IL-10, and TNF-alpha/beta, which are required for host defense against intracellular viral and bacterial pathogens. Th2 cells secrete IL-4, IL-5, IL-9, IL-13, and IL-17E/IL-15, which are required for humoral immunity and play an important role in coordinating the immune response to larger extracellular pathogens.
